Week after week we are compelled to stay home in these dangerous times. Some of us have no choice but to go out into the big, bad world to help others or keep the wheels turning. Strangely we are all heroes. Those who bravely work and those who responsibly stay in to stop the spread of COVID-19. Our thoughts though should also turn to those who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. They are the often forgotten victims of this tragedy. One day, on the other side, I hope we all have somewhere we can whinge about when we drag ourselves into work on a weekend. It won’t matter if it’s stylish or butt ugly. What will matter is that life returns to “normal” and if we’re lucky towards something a little better, a little kinder, a little more stable. Oh and I lied. It’s always better to go to work on a Saturday somewhere stylish like these sophisticated offices by Henry Francis Design.

Today I’m sharing another prime example of how incredible original details can look whilst modernizing through furnishings and art etc. Designer Claire Larritt-Evans turned this 1880s former dance school in Melbourne into a drop-dead gorgeous family home. Elegant yet chic and current, it may be a bit minimal but it is brought to another level with the beautiful stained glass windows, fireplace and tile floor. (Aside from, well, everything here I’m head over heels for the ball/chain detail in the kitchen and the bedding)

A little East Coast dreaming on the West Coast by the talented Meredith Kleinman Design. Beautiful light, careful curation and simple, meaningful rooms without being cliched or cartoony. The perfect way to “live” on both  sides of the country.

From the dramatic entrance to the sophisticated kitchen to the spa-like bathroom, from the luxury finishes to bespoke joinery, from the carefully restored old to the well considered Sydney-based interior designer Jillian Dinkel has created something very special indeed. This 1904 Victorian boldly broaches the 21th century, a dramatic entrance indeed.
