An eye for it. That’s what we say. He has an eye for it. And photographer Nik Epifanidis does. A graphic eye, an eye for colour. Beautiful shots of beautiful spaces but with a natural eye. No fuss just substance but what substance! An understanding of the architecture, the interior design. An eye for it you’d have to say!

Barefoot luxury. That’s what the owners, a young family, wanted when they asked South African based ANTONI ASSOCIATES to design the interiors of their recently purchased home. Stone and marble play off beautiful timber floors to provide texture and soften the clean lines of the contemporary architecture. Rough formed concrete is balanced by smooth white bulkheads and soft recessed lighting. Warm, tactile, inviting and definitely a home for entertaining. Open bar anyone?

“It’s hard to spot an Anonymous house. And that’s the way we like it.”
That is what drew me to Anonymous Architects, based in Los Angeles. Their designs are unfussy, functional and unpretentious. For simple folks who don’t like to mess around nor feel the need to show off to their neighbours.

Rising up like a sturdy weed in a pavement crack. A spindly, winding shoot of a building reaching for the sun between the city structures. An ultra-compact concrete vertical house over 3 levels in what was previously a parking space for 2 cars, six by seven metres. And when you have wound your way to the top what is your reward? Views that go on forever anchored by the raw textures of concrete, rock and timber. Dramatic volumes defining open plan living areas. Bespoke furniture and high end finishes. Stairs that take you on a tactile journey. A pool terrace that taunts the view and a master bedroom suite that rivals any 5 star resort. Sensual and sensational, definitely a statement home.
