Stalking on a sunny Saturday …

… and what better house than one with  a generous dose of sunshine yellow. So bright and fresh, light and white, yellow and… green. How fab is that green bedroom? Hope your weekend is as fun as this cute sandstone terrace. Ah Darlinghurst, Sydney I love you. Link here while it lasts.

Loft lurking

Posted on Fri, 9 Sep 2011 by midcenturyjo

End of the week real estate stalking. Today I’m lurking around this whole floor apartment in the old Maples Warehouse in South Yarra. Lots of white tempered with rich neutrals, almost as many living areas as days of the week, sunny balconies and killer suburb in Melbourne, Australia. I’m already figuring out what furniture to give away and more importantly what I would bring in. If only the bank manager would say yes. At least I have a lottery ticket for tomorrow night. The sun’ll come out
Tomorrow
So ya gotta hang on
‘Til tomorrow
Come what may
Tomorrow! Tomorrow!
I love ya Tomorrow!
…..

Oops sorry got carried away there. Real estate stalking on a rainy weekend found this Malvern, Melbourne home. Cute as a button on the outside. Sophisticated on the inside. I’d ramp up the bedroom a little more but the bones are good. The mirror over the mantle is a modern take on a traditional piece. Can you spot the 2 TVs in the living areas. Summer and winter viewing? I hope not both at the same time. I’m also wondering if they ran out of money for window treatments. Perhaps they like a a simple finish.I’d love to see this house shot sympathetically. A good stylist, a good photographer, a magazine spread? Link here while it lasts.

The writing’s on the wall

Salad sandwiches and real estate stalking for lunch today. I wish I had lived in a place as indie cool as this when I was younger. A great mix of classic mid century hip and an irreverent DIY approach. Don’t be fooled though. It’s  not a student house. The artwork and the prize retro pieces (like the atomica coffee machine) mean big bucks or savy shopping. Today’s house is in one of my favourite parts of Sydney, Redfern. It will of course sell for an obscene amount then be renovated into a sterile “contemporary meets heritage” montage  of big box catalogues and high end fittings. It has real estate “potential” written all over those walls. Shame. I kinda like it’s funky probably soon to be former self. Link here while it lasts.

Animal crackers?

Posted on Mon, 22 Aug 2011 by midcenturyjo

Two apartments. One Potts Point and the other Surry Hills, both Sydney. For a moment ignore the fact that the Potts Point apartment has a view that half of us would kill for. Let’s look at the similarities instead. Dark walls. Colourful “pops” (as in snap, crackle, pop not grandpa), eclectic mix of furniture, lashings of drama and oversized animals. Gigantic giraffe and dominating deer. Are they crackers to have such overwhelming animal decor? Or just fun loving decor fools? Not sure if I could live with such large taxidermied heads in such a bijou apartment but I do like those Surry Hills brown walls. Which one does it for you or would you be leaving the furniture and art out on the kerb for collection? Stalking inner city Sydney is always so much fun. Potts Point link here while it lasts and Surry Hills here.
