I am a creature of habit it seems. Mondays are developing a distinct pattern. Mondays are the day I run away to a virtual retreat, escape to a veritable feast for the eyes. I play make believe. This Monday, then, is no different. I’m running away as fast as I can to this little eco cabin in Uruguay I found on the pages of Elle Decor España. Simple, unpretentious and beautiful. Don’t come visit me straight away though. I’m draining the water tank dry in that outdoor shower. I know. Not very eco of me but I am just day dreaming here… and what a lovely daydream.

Back in July of 2011 I blogged the Spanish holiday home of interior designer and artist Javier Requejo. Javier emailed the other day to let us know his home was recently featured in Elle Decor España. The stellar photos and styling knock this already fabulous home out of the ballpark. I just had to share this version with you all since the first round was such a hit, and it’s pretty neat to be able to see what it takes to make a home magazine-worthy. (P.S. Javier now has a blog).

I love a little juxtaposition of old and new in my interiors. I’ve probably said that a thousand times. It’s that element of surprise that gets me every time. This home I found on Le Case di Elixír rocks my world. Looking at the exterior, you’d never guess what was inside. Unfortunately the photos of the interior are mainly of the kitchen area but those alone did it for me.

So drawn to this rough luxe, girly vs rustic with a twist of vintage, imperfectly pretty bed space. A lovely look by prop and soft goods stylist Kate S Jordan. More fabulousness on her website and if you can’t get enough her tumblr, The Modern Diary, will draw you right in.

I was fortunate to be able to escape the dreary winter weather for a bit, but for those who aren’t so fortunate, I’ve got a virtual vacation for you. This is CasasNaAreia, a magical holiday rental located in Alentejo, Portugal via Welcome Beyond. CasasNaAreia is a gorgeous retreat taking old masonry buildings and turning them into new, contemporary structures. The property with 4 double bedrooms is about the experience of living almost in an extension of the natural environment, especially when in the kitchen/dining area – which is laid out with a carpet of fine sand. Surrounded by rice paddies and umbrella pine forest, CasasNaAreia looks out onto the Sado estuary famous for its stunning sunsets, salt pans, flamingos and flocks of dolphins.
