The Villa Renovation by LAHAUS

Posted on Thu, 20 Feb 2020 by midcenturyjo

It can be daunting taking on the renovation of a house by a renowned architect but Perth-based interior design studio LAHAUS, known for their refined, functional spaces created a sophisticated aesthetic with casual undertones. The emphasis is on a modern materials palette and a monochromatic colour scheme.

Earth tones in a Paris apartment

Posted on Mon, 17 Feb 2020 by KiM

Wow. WOW. It’s spaces like these that make me crave earth tones sooooooo much. Shades of white, cream, brown and black make for such a warm, easy-on-the-eye atmosphere. Paris designer Émilie Bonaventure of BE Attitude created an absolute masterpiece with this apartment in the 9th arrondissement. Those curved windows and doors are such a dream.

The mystical qualities of a centuries old home

Posted on Sun, 26 Jan 2020 by KiM

I have imagined for many years of living in a mid century modern home, an industrial loft, and a rustic relic of a home. This would be the rustic relic of my dreams. It is a 16th century oak framed farmhouse 2 hours outside of London, set on 2 acres of wild gardens and meadows, with 7 bedrooms and numerous outbuildings. I could cry this is so beautiful. Available as a location home through Shoot Factory.

In case you weren’t sure what your dream home looked like, I found it for you. You’re welcome. A bespoke home nestled and perched atop a hill in the Oaks in Hollywood hills, the residence was born out of desire for highly considered design within a modest footprint. A perfect fusion of two worlds, old and new with industrial chic and old-world interiors. An impressive achievement that looks to the tradition of medieval Irish castle and incorporates it into a contemporary California lifestyle. A new and different nod to Case Study Houses as the house continues to further explore the ideological image of intersecting spatial realms and portrays a contemporary commanding presence a top the Hollywood hills. Another impressive project by Mutuus Studio.

A subtle kitchen transformation

Posted on Fri, 29 Nov 2019 by KiM

Kiki, who lives in London, sent over some before and after photos of her kitchen renovation and I love the subtle yet effective transformation of the space. It started off white and ended in white, but a lighter countertop and a massive window really lighten up the space. This kitchen is the same shape as mine yet I think slightly longer, and what I would do to add a window like this! (I can’t – would mean breaking through brick, and then staring at my neighbour’s house and driveway 6 ft away).

The after pics below. I love how neutral it is. You can throw a Persian rug down, add a bright bowl on the counter and completely transform it.
