Maison nordique-boréale

Because my trip to Mexico is not for another 3 weeks. Because I hate winter more than anything else. Because I love featuring talented Canadians. This cabin in the woods in Sainte-Adèle, Québec was designed by Appareil Architecture and is a great distraction from the current weather here in Ottawa. This home is exactly what bringing the outside in is all about. A cabin that is simple and warm and functional. What a little dreamy oasis in the country.

Chalet Rivière Verbier

I had to share another refined rustic chalet in the mountains by the incredibly talented Marianne Tiegen. Where wood walls meet Tom Dixon Beat lights and a Mies van der Rohe Barcelona stool. And YES to the wrinkled linen duvet covers. (On that note, I am desperate to find one for my king-sized bed. If anyone knows of a reasonably priced preferably Canadian source let me know in the comments!)

Chalet Vieux Valet Verbier

Last week marked 9 years of this blog’s existence. It has been a long yet very fun 9 years I have to admit, but after all the hours upon hours upon HOURS of blog research it seems to take alot to REALLY get me excited about a home these days. While getting this post ready, I was so damn excited about it I wanted to crank my tunes, jump up and dance on my desk. This chalet designed by Marianne Tiegen is going on my list of top 5 favourite homes I have ever featured. It is a truly magical blend of rustic, industrial and mid-century styles….all the best rolled into one.

Stalking where I’ve been before

I’m stalking a house I’ve featured before, the Balmain House by Fox Johnston, only this time I think I like the real estate photos better. The house seems to have mellowed, grown into its modern extension. Great to see a floor plan. Link here while it lasts.

La Micheline

It’s Wednesday. Hump day. Time for a virtual getaway to the Ardennes region of Belgium, to La Micheline, an old railway station now a holiday home set amongst meadows. If the impressive renovation and rebuild using bluestone, rough hewn wood and concrete isn’t enough to get your design juices running there’s even an old railway line with trolleys. The gîte is the creation of architectural photographers Anne and Jean-Luc Laloux and is a sister property to La Classe which we featured here.
