A glimpse at a 7000 sq ft home in Evanston, IL designed by Kara Mann. In her ubiquitous style of slightly edgy yet timeless style, always with touches of black. Here Kara has included a disco ball and pink (…crushed velvet?) curtains (Anyone else in love with her CB2 “flutter” sofa? SO GOOD!)

Hips and gables

“An existing heritage building is transformed through the introduction of a modern, two-storey addition that playfully re-interprets the distinctive geometry of the original dwelling through a contemporary lens. Capturing abundant natural light and garden aspects, the new addition employs a refined and subtle palette of brick, steel and timber.”

Adding more space to a heritage home isn’t always about replicating the existing style. Sometimes it’s better to clearly delineate between old and new. This contemporary extension with its umbilical cord of glass and brick connecting it to the mother house shares similar materials such as brick while referencing the existing hips and gables in its form. Traditional meets contemporary

Love the cozy, earthy vibes in this home designed by Indiana based designer Whittney Parkinson. And the kitchen is a dream! Traditional architectural details are blended with the contemporary to create a cohesive home for the modern family. WPD blended a neutral foundation with pops of color to enhance the home’s finishes and create depth. Beautiful fabrics mix well with slick metals and warm woods in this eclectic residence.

If you think your home lacks a certain whimsical or creative energy, then this project by Alberto Villalobos is packed full of creative ideas that are a lot of fun and pack a punch. It starts with ceramic dogs flanking the front door. Then a random swirl pattern painted on the foyer floor. A planter of ferns built under a window. An ombre stair runner. A green and gold kitchen. A patchwork terrazzo floor. A monochromatic orange office. A dramatic black and brass bathroom. Yesssssssss to all of these elements.

A family’s stylish West Village townhouse

I fell in love with this home when I first saw it featured in a recent edition of Architectural Digest and though I think it made the rounds on the web over the summer I still wanted to share for those who might have missed it. The architecture is the wow factor, and the cozy and unique furnishings, a lot of which I think are vintage, add high class and sophistication yet aren’t too precious that the whole family (with 2 kids) can’t enjoy. This perfection was designed by Alisa Bloom.
