I am bringing back Monday’s pets on furniture today because I received a few entries since announcing this feature’s demise, as well to ask for help. I’ll start with the plea for help.

The feral cats I rescued a few weeks ago are doing well. My attempt to get them domesticated/friendly is slow but has progressed since they have been with me. Having never dealt with ferals, I knew this would take some work and time, and I am discovering how frustrating it is that they have not figured out I am the good guy. This is especially evident when I am downstairs with my herd of 5 and they are all over me, then I go upstairs to visit with the ferals and they want nothing to do with me. It hurts.

This is Georgie, and dare I say my favourite. It hit me late last week that these little guys really are not that little, and I had suspected I had a mix of boys and girls….which means if I kept them together there would end up being more kittens. Although after doing a bit of research this morning I am worried she is already pregnant!!! So Friday right after work I cleared out our 3rd floor room and that has become Georgie’s room. I feel so bad she’s all alone. She always had her brothers with her but there is nothing I can do. And unfortunately this now means the time I have to devote to them has doubled.

This is Bernie – I am 95% sure he is a boy. He is the boldest of the 3.

I am 95% sure that Frankie here is a boy (he keeps his tail down and doesn’t turn his back to me so I had to figure this out by touch). He is the shyest but I have noticed over the past few days that when I pet him he doesn’t freeze so much anymore and will actually close his eyes a bit like he enjoys it.

I think there may need a rush to get Georgie to the vet to be spayed, especially if she’s already pregnant (this is all new to me so I’m trying to figure out what to do at this point). Unfortunately I do not have the funds for their vet bills, whatever the amount ends up being depending on what their physical health is like. I hate to do this again, as I had to ask for help last year when I rescued Agnes, but here I go again. If anyone can make a donation towards the care of these little monsters, I have added a donation button to the sidebar that will take you to Paypal. Otherwise you can send directly via Paypal to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com. A HUGE thanks to all those who have already donated via Instagram/FB etc. I look at these photos and can kick myself for not having rescued them sooner, but I thank gawd I broke down and did it despite the chaos this has added to my life. Look at those faces – they deserve a chance at a good life, and I cannot wait until the look of fear you see in each of their eyes disappears. I really appreciate any help I can get, and if anyone is interested in eventually adopting these cuties (if all goes well at the vets) let me know. Thanks dear readers. 🙂

***UPDATE***: Thanks to everyone who have donated thus far. It means the world to me. I spoke with my vet when I got home from the day job and I have an appointment to bring all 3 cats in Monday morning. They will be dealt with as part of their feral trap and release program where they will be put under, get all vaccinations done and spayed/neutered and then I can pick them up in the afternoon. Well, for at least the boys. I have a feeling Georgie will be coming home in the same condition with a belly full of kittens. Fingers crossed I am totally wrong about this. And the vet owner has offered to give me a 20% discount. Yay!

Ok now on to pets on furniture!

I’ve been wanted to send you pictures of my dear Raki for Pets on Furniture – but all the pictures are of him – not the furniture.  (Kim: Works for me!)
1 – Evaluating the hammock
2 – Watching Downton Abbey
– Mary

Thought I would get to it quick and take a photo of our rescue dog Grover who has made himself at home on our mid century chair.
– Margo (Vancouver Island)

My nineteen and a half year old black cat, Jarvis left this earth on Tuesday morning. He was a beautiful and loyal sidekick to me since I adopted him at 5 weeks old.   As I was going through photos in between sobs, I found a few that I thought may be appropriate for Pets on Furniture.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015 by KiM

Sorry dear readers who tune in Mondays in the hopes of finding photos of adorable pets lounging on furniture, but I think this is going to be the last post of this series. I have been doing this for many years now, and submissions have been decreasing to the point where it seems like I should probably call it quits. I had a great time getting to know your pets and the photos have been awesome, a bright light on an otherwise dreadful start of each week. Thanks to everyone who has participated over the years.

This is Lola. She is a five year old Pug from The Hague Holland. She likes to hang out and watch people on the street on top of my blue vintage Chesterfield couch.
– Rick

Sir Puss – he is part royalty and part cat model extraordinaire
– Ole & Gen (Victoria, BC)

This is Barney, one of our four “kiddens”. All are rescues. Barney found us on a very hot July day, under the porch of my husband’s family home in south Alabama. We love him so much!
– Gail (Birmingham, Alabama)

Here are a couple I took a few weeks ago, coincidentally both cats caught mid-yawn…

And a quick update about my 3 feral kitties. They’re doing well…it is a slow process but they are noticeably less stressed by my presence. I have faith in Georgie, Frankie and Bernie that they’ll become big affectionate babies like my other 5, and will be perfect adoption candidates.

Georgie, the last cat we rescued, and the shyest pre-rescue, to my surprise was immediately the boldest one post-rescue. I had to back up a bit to get this photo, that’s how close she/he was to me here. So freaking cute, it’s killing me to not be able to squeeze the crap out of them.

Georgie loves catnip. It is a tool I plan to use to drug them all so they won’t know the wiser. 😉 Look closely and you’ll see all three.

Bernie was the friendliest outside, who had let me pet her for a couple of months before the rescue. She’s not really into being touched now that I have ruined her life, and that breaks my heart. But she’ll do just about anything for chicken. She came out of the cardboard structure after I snapped this photo and ate with me right there.

If you would like to send me photos to include in the next pets on furniture post, please ensure your photos follow these basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to kim[@]desiretoinspire[.]net. Thanks!

I was trying to photograph the wooden tote that I found at a local antique show this weekend so it’s not officially a piece of furniture I’m trying to show off but the sofa, lamp and hutch in the background make it a furniture shot of sorts, right? 🙂

This is newly rescued Sarah (the great dane/bloodhound) making herself at home in some much needed Sun after a VERY hard winter just North of Boston.

This is our 8-month old Labradoodle Quimby, sitting on our Bo Concept armchair. He adores snuggling in the Restoration Hardware fake fur throw.

I have gone and done it again…..I have been feeding 3 feral cats since the end of the summer (see video here I took last month). I had told myself after the last stray I rescued that I would not go through that again. I knew that would not last. I could not bear to let these poor 8 or 9 month old kittens live like they had been anymore, and after being in contact with the Ottawa Humane Society and a couple of rescue organizations – none of which would help me – I decided I had had enough. So early Saturday morning, my husband and I managed to trap 2 of the kittens.

In the photo above you can see 3 of the kittens. We trapped the 2 that are standing in front of the garage they lived in. (They often ran out to greet me like this in the mornings because they knew I brought them breakfast).

This was taken a few hours after we had brought them home. Luckily I have a spare bedroom in this house with no furniture in it so it is now the feral cat hangout. I am fairly sure the one on the left is a female. She is the friendliest and loved to be petted (so I was able to get a look at her backend since she often came out of the garage to get some attention and get to the food before the others). The one of the right I am not sure if it’s male or female. It hasn’t really let me pet it but doesn’t run away when I try to. Judging by its temperament I think it will for sure come around.

They are pretty terrified of the events of Saturday but at least their food bowl was empty when I checked in on them Sunday morning (I hope to gawd they are both eating). I plugged in a Feliway diffuser I picked up Sunday night so I hope that helps. We tried to get the 3rd kitten and what I think might be their mom Sunday morning but were unsuccessful so we will try again Tuesday morning. I really hope we can catch them all and that they come around. There is that to worry about (my nerves are shot I am so concerned for these little cuties), and then how to pay the vet bills when the time comes. Please say a little prayer that this whole saga ends on a happy note. And I’ll be posting update photos on Instagram if you’re interested in following the progress. *SIGH*

Here’s Caleb discovering my new pedestal table, a glorious flea market find.
– Heather (Amsterdam, the Netherlands)

This is Salsa, Portuguese for the latin dance and also for parsley! Crazy right?! She’s a five years old smooth coat Fox Terrier rescue and she’s the sweetest, jumpiest, happiest girl ever even if her health isn’t the best (she has several allergies and was recently diagnosed with EPI – Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency making her unable to survive without medication). We live in an apartment and she loves to catch some sun in the balcony even in the Winter! She’s laying on a pallet sofa I’ve put together and painted 5 years ago. The cushions were done by me and my mother (the bottom one is an Ikea baby’s mattress).
– Marta (Lisbon, Portugal)

Our boy Henry on a lovely vintage step stool.
– Chania

I grew up a dog person, but have since adopted two cats and gotten so obsessed that they have their own Instagram (@dinkuscats). I was arranging the bookshelf when Taiga jumped up and made herself part of the tableau!
– Kelly (Los Angeles, CA)

This is a photo of my 4 1/2 month old fur baby, Oscar! I snapped him lounging in the sun this weekend on my grandmothers vintage arm chair.
– Ashly (Moncton, New Brunswick)

Attached is a picture of Hendrix, our soon to be 7 year old lab/whippet cross. We adopted him from the Winnipeg Humane Society on Easter Monday six years ago. He has chewed through many pieces of furniture in his first few months with us. Hendrix has now become quite the master of hanging out on sofas and beds while we are out. He is in our master bedroom, updated from a old black lacquer bedroom set that I painted out with a cream-white colour and built a new head board with the old platform (building plans courtesy of another website Ana White).

We recently got a dog who keeps me company while I design, and he likes to balance on our One Drink Table. His name is The Head Honcho, but we call him Honcho for short.

I am the cat-mom of Jenks who you featured on Monday’s Pets on Furniture on October 14, 2014.  It was the same day you featured a tribute to your boy Bubba Cheeks.  I know it’s a lot to ask, but I wondered if Jenks might get one more go round?
I had to put my sweet boy down for his final rest today.  A combination of Diabetic ketoacidosis and a tumor forced me to make the awful, horrible decision. Jenks was loved by all my friends though he *seemingly* barely tolerated all of us. He was prone to following me from room to and rarely ever slept on any of my prized budget MCM furniture! I once said, truthfully, that HE was my most prized possession. If one can ever really say they own a cat and not the other way around. He was a moody cat, didn’t play much, but he gave good snuggle and let me know in little ways, every day, that he loved me. I’ll miss his obnoxious ways, his peculiar demands for attention and the way he lay in my arms like he was royalty – hence one of his many nicknames – The Prince. He was a good cat, a great cat and I loved every bit of him.

The pictures I chose are dark and a bit out of focus, but I wanted to show Jenks with some of my most valued pieces. I’m going to miss my Lil’ man so very much. But he’s no longer in pain and he’ll live forever in my heart and all the photographs I’ve taken of him over the years. I would trade every piece I own to have him back with me today.

Even in the heat of a New Zealand summer Meme is still happy to spend a few hours on her favourite leather Flutter Chair.

While I was preparing this post last night I turned around and spotted this scene right behind me. Mimin and Lucky taking advantage of the warmth of the faux sheepskins on the Panton chairs (with tunes playing through the Bluetooth speaker my husband built) on my vintage repro Componibili.

And on a sad note, my 3 stray kittens are still outside, and it has been brutally cold lately. (-39C overnight) The person I was emailing with at The Avery Foundation a few weeks ago never answered my last email, so I am going to assume that’s another rescue organization who isn’t going to help. I have decided that when I get back from my holiday down south, I am going to trap these little guys and figure it out myself. I can’t live with this situation any longer and I don’t want them to die. I have had too many cats die on me over the past few years and I can’t deal with any more horrible endings. I mean, look at these faces…
