First Mexico now Spain. Another reader’s lovely home. A fun and colourful family home. Fresh and stylish. Spy some IKEA? That’s the reason why Carmina and her family made the cover of the Spanish IKEA Family Live.  Congratulations Carmina! What a wonderful home! Photos from Carmina’s blog Interiors Originals and IKEA Family Live.

Reader’s home in Cabo San Lucas

Posted on Sat, 2 Apr 2011 by midcenturyjo

We had so many great readers’ homes in lately that I just had to share on a Saturday. Vikki recently purchased a piece of paradise in Cabo San Lucas and wanted to share with tease Desire to Inspire readers. What a beautiful holiday spot, the endless blue of the Sea of Cortez and a great renovation by Vikki! Just a taste here but you can see all the befores and afters on her blog My House, My Garden. Casa Cielo is available to stay but would you ever want to leave. I think I’d just laze by that pool forever. Let’s take in the view before moving inside after the jump.

“I moved into my first house about 6 months ago. I have 2 design dilemmas. The first issue is the huge blank wall in the dining room & kitchen. (There is an air conditioner in the wall that we will be replacing with a window and central air this summer) but the wall spans the entire house. I have no clue what to do there. The second issue is the den (family room). There is a ledge that spans the whole room. I have no idea what to do  for it. I’m stuck. Help!” – Mindy

I have included some of Mindy’s “before” photos after the jump just to show you how far she has come! I’ve been in my new old house for almost as long and we haven’t achieved anywhere near as much as you Mindy. OK crew hop to it. Mindy needs your help.

Got a problem? Need some help? Just standing there shaking your head? Don’t know what to do? You’re not alone. Send us a link to photos of your design quandary and let the Desire to Inspire design crew help you …. that’s you lot… the readers…. get to it! You are coming up with some stellar ideas each week so it’s time to do it all over again. Besides I have some rest to get back to. Can’t disappoint Doctor Gorgeous!

This week’s problem comes from Nat who went through the heart breaking flooding earlier this year in my part of the world.

“We live in West End, Brisbane and our lower level was inundated by the floodwaters. We’ve put in floorboards (yet to be polished etc), new walls, new paint. Very exciting to have this area back again. We weren’t insured for flood so it’s been a cost we weren’t expecting – so we’ve had friends help (they’ve been amazing). So, the TV Room has a little ‘nook’ that used to have a little kitchen in it. I’d LOVE for your followers (Design Crew) to give me some ideas on how to transform it with shelves or storage or display space or any other creative ideas. This nook sits in a room that’s 4.5m long and 3.6m wide.  It’s a TV-play-teenagers hang-out room. At the other end are glass sliding doors. I’d like to have books, wine, nicknacks, toy box in the space but open to other ideas too. The actual nook is 230cm at its highest point, 130cm at the other lower height. Its 140cm wide and 110cm deep. As we are on a budget I guess I’d be looking at Ikea for shelving.” – Nat

I think we can come up with some better ideas than just Ikea shelving… just remember cheap and fabulous! After emailing Nat about what else was going in the room this is what she replied.

“We’ll put back in – TV, this white sideboard and I’m going to investigate getting this Janda lounge recovered because its such a good quality lounge (bought it in 1992). I think it may cost about $3.5K to reupholster…..ouch. But might be worth it??? And in the flood someone bought me a new red cover that will go on this Ikea Klippan couch (legs taken off at the mo.) And this is my Nana’s 60’s smokers table with standard lamp in built.  I’ve looked online for great lampshades and found this site Seven Dandelions which has the look I think I’m after. (I went to Woolloongabba Antique Centre but nothing that really did the job.)”

See what Nat has to work with after the jump as well as the shots from the flood and its filthy, smelly aftermath. Oh Nat what a mess! Time to get to it team. Just remember very limited budget but miles of style. Easy right?

You did such a good job the last couple of weeks I know you can do it all over again. Besides I have a Saturday to enjoy.

“I am needing ideas for window treatments. I live in a townhouse without a lot of character except it has great windows that allow lots of light. But I also need privacy! so letting them be bare is not an option. I inherited custom made shades accordion kind made of some sort of felt like material?? do not know but they have to stay for a long while. I have two very large cathedral style windows and two windows that flank a faux wood burning stove on the outside wall. This wall also has a cathedral window it is the smaller one. I am not one for matchy match. I hung cream voile curtains that puddle to the floor on the two the cathedral windows. I was trying to come up with an idea for the other two windows that are much smaller that measure 32.5 x 62.5. Any ideas would be appreciated. I adore this blog and drool over the beautiful spaces… I have attached pic’s hope these are adequate.  I also attached photos of the yellow chairs I want to reupholster.  I can’t make up my mind on fabric.  Any feedback would be appreciated.” – Wendy

Here’s a taste of what Wendy has achieved so far. It’s shaping up to be a lovely room. After the jump you’ll see the problem with the room. She REALLY needs your help 😉
