Stalking an up-cycle house

Posted on Fri, 26 May 2017 by midcenturyjo

I’m stalking something slightly different today. I’m in Blackheath, a town in the Blue Mountains outside Sydney and I’m stalking the first home of a young architect. “Up-Cycle House is a freestanding 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom family home that is ideally located within walking distance to the lively high street of Blackheath Village. The house has been lovingly renovated by Architect and owner Alexander Symes. Recently completed, the renovation pays tribute to recycled building materials that have been “up-cycled” with a creativity and playfulness not found in an ordinary house. The architectural vision has come to life to create a unique home that celebrates sustainable design and living.”  The link to the real estate listing is here while it lasts and you can read more of Symes process here.

Stalking in Melbourne

Posted on Fri, 12 May 2017 by midcenturyjo

You know how I often jest about packing my bags and moving into the houses I virtually stalk? This time I really am booking a flight, knocking on the door and politely, but very firmly, muscling my way in. Designed in 2000 by architect Allan Powell and with gardens by Eckersley Garden Architecture (2014), I’m at a loss for words. I wouldn’t change a thing if it was mine accept my address. It’s perfect… well almost. I won’t be able to afford it. Listing here while it lasts.

Stalking Barbie’s Melbourne house

Posted on Fri, 28 Apr 2017 by midcenturyjo

OK so the house actually was renovated by fashion designer Alannah Hill but Barbie could move right in. Perfect pink, flowery, frou-frou fabulousness… and did I mention pink?  Link here while it lasts.

Still stalking

Still stalking, still in Fitzroy. Hey I’d never leave if I had my choice. This time it’s a warehouse conversion with walls of glass to take in the internal courtyard views. Perhaps a little updating is needed but the overall package is fabulous. If I can’t have the bluestone worker’s terrace of my earlier post then I guess I’ll just have to make do with urban industrial chic. Once again the video sells this house. Link here while it lasts.

Stalking in the gritty city

Posted on Fri, 21 Apr 2017 by midcenturyjo

Urban cool just got smoking hot. I’m stalking in my favourite inner city Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy and there is so much to love. It’s a bijou brick worker’s terrace with exposed stone walls. The renovation was by one of Australia’s leading interior design firms Hecker Guthrie and it’s as stylishly gritty and hip as its location. Don’t miss the video. The soundtrack is on fleek like the whole sales campaign and it’s fun to spot the differences between what are obviously the designers’ styled portfolio shots and how the house actually looks. I’d move in in a heart beat. Link here while it lasts.
