A vibrant revival in Brussels

Posted on Thu, 28 Nov 2024 by midcenturyjo

I’m sharing another home by Isabel Gómez Studio but this time it’s a light-filled and colourful confection, a stunning marriage of old and new. This project involved completely renovating a traditional Brussels townhouse. Reflecting the studio’s Emotional Luxury® philosophy, the design once again emphasizes the emotional connections between the design and the client. The designers have crafted bold, eclectic and sophisticated interiors with their signature custom joinery and bespoke furnishings all the while respecting the heritage of the building. A luxurious yet livable home that merges timeless artistry with personal comfort.

A Romanesque Victorian renovation in Minnesota

Posted on Mon, 25 Nov 2024 by KiM

Atop St. Paul’s picturesque Summit Hill, our Romanesque Victorian renovation transformed a majestic, 10,000-square-foot estate into an intimate haven for a growing family. By juxtaposing grand, airy spaces with snug, inviting nooks, we created a harmonious balance of elegance and warmth. This thoughtfully restored home now radiates cozy charm.
I’m head over heels in love with this home. The drama of the grandeur and the architecture, that marble checkerboard floor, the warmth of the wood paneling, the mix of modern and antique lighting, the photography artwork that makes such a statement… Designed by Anne McDonald; Photos: Tim Lenz; Styling: Liz Gardner.

Isabel Gómez Studio’s latest project is a stunning duplex, fully renovated in one of Brussels’ most sought-after neighborhoods. Set within a remarkable building, the space combines modernity and elegance, featuring a beautiful terrace and a serene wellness area. The design reflects the studio’s philosophy of Emotional Luxury®, creating interiors that evoke deep emotions and forge authentic connections with clients’ stories and aspirations. Led by award-winning designer Isabel Gómez, the studio creates bold, eclectic and sophisticated haute couture interiors. Specializing in luxurious yet livable homes, the team designs custom joinery, furniture, lighting and breathtaking carpets, crafting timeless interiors that are both personal and profound—a true fusion of artistry and comfort.

The project involved architects AB Design Studio collaborating with Tamara Honey, founder of House of Honey, to transform a modest 1950s wood cabin nestled in a rock quarry between the Santa Barbara foothills and the Santa Ynez mountains. Surrounded by massive boulders, the single-story home now features an expanded wrap-around wood deck. A central hallway connects the updated kitchen and living areas to a spacious new master suite. Named Honey House, the design captures the area’s artistic and Zen heritage—once home to bohemian poets, writers, and artists—by preserving original features and incorporating reclaimed stone found on the property. Somers House – a coastal sanctuary

Posted on Mon, 18 Nov 2024 by midcenturyjo

Somers House by Kennedy Nolan serves as a weekender, summerhouse and a family gathering space for the owners’ children, partners and grandchildren. Blending architecture and interior design into a unified approach, it exemplifies harmony between form, space and material. With charred timber cladding, ochre render and oiled Douglas Fir, the home offers a tactile, resilient design suited to its wild Westernport Bay setting. The palette, inspired by Gija artist Queenie McKenzie and Luis Barragán’s vibrant hues, balances robustness and warmth. Every element—from red travertine to textured finishes—creates a sanctuary where privacy and togetherness coexist, celebrating timelessness, weathered beauty and distinctly Australian coastal aesthetics.
