If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

It’s not really furniture but it’s a new wood burning stove!

This is my pug Koko celebrating her 12th birthday on Valentine’s Day by hanging out on the antique bed I picked up at an estate sale. The vintage quilt is also an estate sale find.

Here’s my former housemate Snoop. We were together ever since I got my own place. But I had to give him up for adoption after childbirth. How I miss him so 🙁

Tthis is my cat Luna. For some strange reason lately she likes to chill out on my new DIY-chevron desk! Sometimes I feel really lucky that I can still watch the tv! In the back you can see my favorite lamp that I bought on the internet.
– Verónica (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

my sons dog, always find him waiting
– Rose (Oklahoma City)

This is my dog Ollie. He’s one of the most full of energy excitable dog you’ll ever meet but when he’s spent he crashes and always looks so cute doing it.

I was contacted recently by Graham, a trustee of a cat rescue organization in the UK called the St. Francis Hospice for Cats. He heard the story about my stray cat Desiree and wants to include it in their March newsletter. This is a registered charity that cares for chronically sick, elderly and terminally ill cats. The story of how this charity came about and how they are managing now is quite sad (read about it here). I was more than happy to blog about this wonderful organization in the hopes to gain them some exposure and donations. What they do is amazing, especially after reading the history of some of their residents (including several who have FIV). Graham kindly send along several photos of some of these sweethearts which are below. So please spread the word about this wonderful charity and make a donation HERE if you can.

You’ll find me here

After following photographer Damian Russell here, there and everywhere you’ll find me here for the rest of the day. Relaxing in yet another fabulous photo by Mr Russell. A perfect space to relax.

Take me away Damian

I’ve dreamed with Damian, crushed on him and called for encores. Today I’m surrendering to Damian. You win. You have me. How can I resist your photos? You’re like the Pied Piper of Hamelin (or should that be Rattenfänger von Hameln) and I’m following following. Can’t help it. It’s pure magic when you are this good with a camera. From the portfolio of photographer Damian Russell.

I was contacted recently by Canadian furniture and home decor company Urban Barn to partake in a blogger contest involving chairs, a competition, an auction and charities. I don’t think there’s much in the works publicly yet, although check it out on Twitter via the hashtag #customchairitycompetition. Due to this competition I had to pay my local Urban Barn store a visit last week. Of course, I could not leave empty handed (this is why I try and avoid home decor stores – I can’t stop myself). I picked up a few things, including one sale item I could NOT pass up…yet another freaking lamp (it was half price! 89!). This one is so cool I had to have it, even though I have to box it up and store in my basement until the new house materializes.

The shade is MASSIVE (2′ long and 2′ wide at the bottom) and drapey which I adore, and the tripod base is cool.

This crinkly STUFF basket came in 3 sizes. I snapped up the middle one for $14. I realize now I have a basket addiction.

My frame/pegboard jewelry holder has reached it’s capacity so I thought a new necklace/bracelet holder would be useful (by Umbra for $17).

Everytime I stop in at Urban Barn I always leave with some sort of vase-like object. They have really funky ones, and no I did not need another but they had 3 vases that looked like crushed cans or bottles so I picked up the little one that looked like a pop can for $6.

Those were my purchases. Now the fun with tape part. I was flipping through a magazine recently and saw a vase that looked like it was covered in shredded strips of black fabric. It suddenly came to me to try and wrap some cheapie dollar store vases in black hockey tape….I guess because hockey tape has a sort of fabric-like texture to it. I found a huge tub of ModPodge in my office the other day so I suppose I could have just tried gluing fabric strips but whatever, hockey tape seemed alot easier. I went to a really brutal dollar store near me yesterday and this was all I could find that would work.

My husband grabbed the first vase and a roll of tape and got to work while I taped up the second one. I think they turned out pretty good, but I have to admit I like my haphazard method better.

Have a great weekend!
