Stalking two family homes

Posted on Fri, 9 Mar 2012 by midcenturyjo

Two for today. Two family homes that start with similar bone structure and end up with two different results. It’s like aging. The first old dear has seen a plastic surgeon, gone under the knife and filled up on botox. Still I wouldn’t call it mutton done up as lamb. Or would I? The second home has excepted growing old and tarted up with a little makeup and a lot of attitude but still looks a little tired. Perhaps a visit to a cosmetic clinic is in order? One thing I know for sure is that a “woman of a certain age” needs sympathetic lighting to take a good picture.  Links here and here.

Because I really can’t get enough of Phillip Erickson‘s photography, I give you some more of his eye candy. Enjoy. 🙂

P.S. Urban Barn‘s chairity event is going on this evening down in their Byward Market location featuring ME of all people. Details are HERE and you can still vote for my chair HERE. Hope to see some of you locals there! (FYI: They’ve got some great stuff in stock right now. I bought a few things when I was there designing my chair).

Phillip K Erickson

A couple of days ago I received a pets on furniture submission from a photographer based in Salt Lake City named Philllip K Erickson. The photos he sent are awesome, and you can check them out in one of Monday’s pet posts, but in the meantime I thought I’d share some of his absolutely fantastic interior photography. He claims “It’s simple. I hold a box up to my eye and decide what to leave in, what to leave out.” If only it were that simple. Well, here is one of the homes he has shot that I absolutely adore. It’s mid-century, modern, slightly kitschy…perfect combination if you ask me.

When a stylist tackles DIY

Posted on Thu, 8 Mar 2012 by midcenturyjo

Kiwi stylist LeeAnn Yare really got her hands dirty at the Signature Prints factory in Sydney when she was lucky enough to be given a lesson in screening her own roll of Florence Broadhurst Horses Stampede in tangerine.  Despite the 40 degree heat in the factory on the day, the result was near perfect, and is now gracing LeeAnn’s sons’ bathroom walls.  A long time fan of FB designs, LeeAnn is a huge fan of anything handmade, and this experience has only made her appreciate the handmade process even more. Check out LeeAnn’s own concept store Collected at BLOC, opening on the 22nd March in Auckland New Zealand, where she will be selling FB wallpaper and fabric, and some one off limited edition surprises.

Photos by Larnie Nicolson Photography. Collected’s website will be live this weekend.

Adelaide Bragg

Melbourne based interior designer Adelaide Bragg has a relaxed traditional aesthetic. Her rooms are all about fabrics and layers, muted colours and scale. Elegant but never chocolate box they are about living an everyday life with something just a little special, something a little refined. Sophistication with families and dogs.
