The rainbow house

Posted on Wed, 27 Mar 2013 by KiM

I found this 4 bedroom London maisonette a while back on Foxtons real estate site, and haven’t gotten around to blogging it. Not surprising, it’s still for sale. Not an easy sell I’d say. How many people could handle these colours, or be into having slides from one floor to the next? Do you think the batman statue comes with it? I do find the floor art by Richard Wood to be pretty fun (although overkill in every room!), and OMG it has a 360 degree rotating bed (by Asmech). All of this can be yours for £4,999,999.

Nixon Tulloch Fortey

Nixon Tulloch Fortey Norman Avenue

What is hiding behind the straight laced period facade? Not quite what you think. Melbourne based Nixon Tulloch Fortey Architecture has created an extension that pushes the possibilities of this historic home. Its open plan with bright colour flashes in the new while the renovation of the existing house provides contrast with its dark, rich palette.

Marcia Prentice

Marcia Prentice is a self-taught photographer from Los Angeles who I think was born to snap photos. I’m so glad she emailed because I’m really stoked to share her photos with you all. You may be familiar with her work as she blogs/photographs for Apartment Therapy and has done some design work for a couple HGTV shows (she has a degree in design). Lucky girl! Here are some of my favourites from her portfolio. And there’s more to come later…

Atria

Yes, I do appear to be all over Brazilian designers these days. Atria is the architecture and design firm of Gustavo Costa and Gabriella Müller. I am smitten with their sleek, modern designs that have a playful sensibility.

Revisiting Anita Calero

Posted on Mon, 18 Mar 2013 by midcenturyjo

Forever and a day ago in the blogosphere (my take on the fairytale opening words “Once upon a time in a far away land…”) photographer Anita Calero‘s West Chelsea loft bounced from blog to blog and back again. So much of what we see on blogs, especially what we all love, becomes a visual cliché. Yawn, seen that, click over to something else. With the distance of time some things that faded through repetition can become clearer again and make you remember how much you admired them. That happened to me on the weekend when I revisited Calero’s work. Always loved her loft, her Long Island house ticked my boxes too and as for the rest of her portfolio… how could I forget how much I was in awe of both her style and her photographs?
