If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to kim[at]desiretoinspire[dot]net and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!
Attached is my “Little.” My sweet/adorable rescue “chi-russle” or “jack-wawa” (whichever works for you) She loves digging in the sheets and snuggling/hiding/burrowing under everything.

i’m sending you a picture of my cat elli on a red tolix. we were shooting a couple of pictures for my tumblr when she decided to sit on the bags that we were taking pictures of.
– Brigitte (Vienna)

This is Amalie Noether (Emmy), who was homeless and living in the bushes in front of our house here in Santa Cruz, California. She’s a little more comfortable now!
– Karin

This is Adler, the sweet, silly shelter cat who made a foster failure out of me. She quickly claimed this chair as her own.

I live in Germany, Stuttgart with my beloved long-haired Chihuahua Jimmy. He tends to jump into every picture I take. Here you can see a shot of my living room (and a totally exposed puppy ‘draw my like one of your french girls’-style).
– Jasmin

After several minutes of whining, then barking, then howling, I walked over to see what all the fuss was about. Seems I had failed to put Boo’s toys within reach (usually the bin is on its side under that table). The chair was a yard sale find, now reupholstered.
– Alexia (Altadena, California)

I thought I would share some of the latest pics of my cats from my Instagram feed….because I truly believe I have some of the coolest and cutest cats on the planet. 🙂

And not on furniture but OMG I got them all in one photo!

1 – Home again from far away travels. I get back to work, Tucker resumes position amongst fellow toss cushions.

I did send you two pictures of the same chair, round about a year back, with my white persian cat Zoe sitting on it. Well, Zoe got a brother puppy a couple of weeks ago and he commandeered it (as well as the couch and every other chair he is able to reach. Even the cat tree isn’t save from him.). His name is Clooney as he is a true womanizer, beagle/pug mix and he turned 4 months yesterday (Feb 3).

This is Jericho on his dad’s leather armchair. This is his “my food bowl is only half full” face. Jericho was on death row before being rescued by a no kill shelter and is an FIV cat too 🙂 he’s come a long way from the green mile.
– Helena (Melbourne, Australia)
P.S. Jericho has his own Facebook page

Here is a photo of our cat, Nico, who likes to “sit up” like this on our vintage chairs (luckily she blends in well with the new-ish upholstery). She lords over the lower floor, moving from chair, to couch, to chair again, while our other cat, Bella, commandeers the upstairs, moving from bed to bed. We lowly humans work around them. 😉
– Jacquie, Ken and Sam (Vancouver, BC)

Charlie and Dash make a living out of sleeping so it is not uncommon to find them on furniture…but here is the big difference…Charlie is primarily an indoor dog and so he is not shooed off furniture…however Dash spends his time acting as the Mayor of Greenwood, our tiny town, visiting the neighbors, and more than a few neighbors have sent me photos of Dash on THEIR furniture! He usually gets pretty dirty on his exploits so I will lay a blanket down when he wants to lounge. This time, he snuck in and made himself “invisible”. I did not have the heart to shoo him…and Charlie soon joined him on the other sofa….

This is Inny, my Euro-babe, in front of two most likely 50s Danish chairs we rescued from my neighbor’s attic. We had them stripped, re-finished, re-strapped and reupholstered. We have chinchillas too, but we don’t let them pose with Inny!

Before I get started on today’s pets on furniture, I wanted to share this photo of my stray cat Agnes I rescued last week. This was taken about 15 minutes after I brought her to her new home. She wandered around the apartment sniffing every nook and cranny, then hopped on the bed and decided to have a nap. I am so happy she didn’t have to spend any more time cooped up in my bathroom and her new owner Jasmine is going to take really good care of, including getting all the surgeries done on her she needs ASAP, which will likely cost around $1200. I have donated all I can and I have received a few donations from some very kind folks (thank you all!!!) but it barely covers the surgeries so if you are able to make a donation I would be SOOOO grateful – Jasmine (who works for a non-profit org) was so kind to take this cat in I feel terrible that Agnes comes with such a hefty bill. You can send me a bank transfer if you’re in Canada, or Paypal me at kim_j92[at]hotmail[dot]com. Thank you 🙂
****UPDATE: A HUGE thank you to all those who sent in donations yesterday. I am over-the-moon excited – it looks like I have enough (or close) to cover what I guessed Agnes’ surgeries would cost. You guys are awesome!

As we celebrate her first birthday, we’re reminiscing about Boden’s naughty first months at home. Thankfully, she no longer climbs on tables!

2013 was a long year, no less because i spent it without a dog. your weekly pet posts perked up my spirits regularly; so in return i offer a photo of my recent rescue, didot. she much prefers any recently vacated place on furniture that is still warm [despite not being allowed on furniture, or that i have made her 3 dog beds of her own]. this particular spot happens to be a trusty ikea karlstad with DIY pillows and a wall hanging i made out of recycled t-shirts and the like.
– Emily (Cincinnati, Ohio)

I was actually taking a picture of my new little fireplace, but Libby had another idea.
– Kara (Atlanta, GA)

This is my lovely dog Sophie on our IKEA sofa. She is one of five animals in our house (located in Michigan) and always lays like this when she sleeps on the sofa. She is quite the diva…
– Amanda

Here is a photo of Milo taken a couple years ago when he was a kitty. This is one of his favorite spots in the house and we laugh because he seems to know how good he looks in there!

“My mom and dad bought all this furniture for me. Why else would they bring it to MY house?”
– Skyler Lewis Alvarado (10 year old Maine Coon) & owner Julia (McAllen, Texas)

Our cat Froxi lives in crete, greece and has lost one eye when she was a baby. But she is still adorable!
– Vassiliki

This is my Bullmastiff, Moulin Rouge “Rue” or “Baby Rue” to us! She is a very happy, loving, cuddle bug. She always needs to be near us and we couldn’t be happier to have it! We’ve caught her many times in the backyard sitting on our deck chairs and we even place one extra chair for her around our backyard fire pit.
– Misty (Midland, Ontario)

It has been a cat frenzied week and I am so glad it’s over and has a happy ending. I just got back the test results and Agnes is free of deadly kitty diseases so she will be going to her new home tonight! Her health is good – just had some ear mites and a haert murmur that turned out not to be anemia, but she does have a broken tooth that needs to be pulled, and her hernia and spaying (if she is indeed not spayed). If anyone would like to help out with a donation for these surgeries (I have paid her initial vet visit, along with some donations from my family), please let me know. Her new owner works for a non-profit and is very kind to be helping me out, so I want to give back if I can.
Happy Friday everyone!

I have gone and done it again. I rescued a stray cat from the frigid -36 temperature here in Ottawa. Agnes (her temporary name I came up with last night) is now living in my bathroom and I am desperately looking for a home for her.

So far no one has offered to take her and in the next day or 2 I will have to either take her to the Humane Society or a cat rescue organization. I’m trying to avoid both. She was obviously someone’s pet at some point because she has no front claws. She is not microchipped and it appears she has not been spayed (WTF?!). I discovered she has a hernia in her belly that will need to be dealt with (a friend of my sister bless her heart has agreed to help pay for the surgery, as have I). I would keep her but when we lost Edgar and Cheeks in August and November, I swore to myself I would keep to the 5 we have, to maintain my sanity. Please pass this info along to anyone in Ottawa and help me find this sweet little cat a home. (And on a side note, if you have stray cats you’re feeding and it’s beyond freezing out like it is here, please think about at least letting them in until the weather warms up. No cat should have to be outside in this. It’s inhumane.)
