Lofty dreams

Posted on Mon, 13 Dec 2010 by midcenturyjo

A smile twitched across her lips as she started to climb the stairs to bed. The loft was perfect. She couldn’t believe that it was now her home. She had worked hard to make it happen. The open space, her carefully curated classic furniture, the artwork, the hard edged industrial vibe with just enough creature comforts…. Was that an alarm she heard? Time to get up already? Oh Jo you have been dreaming again! The Oriental Warehouse Loft by Edmonds + Lee. Sweet dreams indeed.

It’s only 110 days till Christmas

Dear Santa,
I know it is a little early for Christmas wish lists but because it is a rather big present I thought I would ask early so you and the elves can get started on hustling up this New York loft for me in time for Christmas morning. Mummy says it is awfully large but I have 3 months to sew a super sized stocking to hang on the mantle. I want to ask for a change here and there in the decor but Daddy says not to be greedy. Please Santa I’ve been a good girl and I’ll even buy my own air ticket to New York if it won’t fit in the sleigh to come all the way here to Australia. If I can’t have this can I have a puppy?
Lots of love,
Jo.

Chris Cushingham is a 24 year old recent design school graduate who emailed us to share his downtown L.A. loft – his recent project. He completed his loft in a hurry and on a really tight budget and I am loving the results. It’s modern, functional and industrial with unique furnishings. I am a huge fan of anything with an industrial vibe so I’m saving this one in my inspiration folder. Great job Chris!!! Might I add that Chris is part of the cast of a new HGTV show called “Design School” airing here in Canada, and is hunting for a job at a creative architecture or design firm so architects/designers – scoop this talented guy up! (Check out his blog here, and photos by Sean Stiegemeier and Dirk Mai).

Ever dreamed of having a fabulous studio to ply your creative trade? Wide open spaces, a white shell in which to create your colourful portfolio? Minimalist but fab furniture and the ultimate decor accessory, a cheeky pug called Buffy? If the answer is yes then you must have been dreaming of photographer and reader Brook Pifer’s studio. OMG I’m jealous. Cool space and über cool pup!

I want this loft!

A big thanks to Sonia who left us some links to Spanish shelter magazines – because I came across an incredible loft from www.micasarevista.com that I immediately fell in love with. OMG – it’s got everything. First, it’s a loft. You can’t go wrong with that. Then there’s white walls (my new favourite wall colour), a mix of modern and retro vintage furnishings, Tolix dining chairs, harvest dining table, metro shelving, cowhide rugs, funky artwork, Anglepoise lamp….when can I move in?!?!
