I didn’t tell you the ending to the chocolate balloon story did I?! {scroll back a few posts if you don’t know what I’m talking about!} Well whilst we were cleaning chocolate from every single surface in the kitchen, someone {won’t mention any names🐶!!} found the burst balloon, covered in Dairy milk and thought it would be a tasty snack! We didn’t realise this until 2 days later when we were scooping up his 💩🎈. So we had a very lucky escape, he’s been having extra cuddles and VIP treatment ever since! Here’s Teddy casually reading a cookery book in my office! Enjoyed two lovely events in the last couple of days. James and me headed to Newcastle to attend the @northern_quarters interiors event – I took part in a panel discussion on Turning Your Passion for Interiors into a Business (ok James watched me and then went record shopping …) It was very scary, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and then last night went to the Lowry with my bud Zoe and watched my favourite Podcast Queens @dollyalderton and @pandorasykes in The High Low Experience. The Halloween posts are out in force, and while we don't go in for decorating much here in NZ my finest home accessory does do particularly good posing in his favourite month of October. I've always been obsessed with the spooky and superstitious, and fancied myself a bit of a Sabrina (the dream) so when this tiny little black kitten (who shares my bday too!) came in to our lives 8 + years ago it felt like tremendous luck. A really lucky omen. The only thing better would have been a house with a turret room like Hocus Pocus (still aiming for this). I named him for Eddie in the Rocky Horror Show (you knew he was a no good kid), Sam named him Eddie for the pharmacist from Nurse Jackie. Though years later I learned his name personally means more than I realised. Anyway, he's grown in to a right meatloaf, and I just know if he could talk he'd be JUST like Salem. . . . . If you've seen my posts/stories the past week you'll know I'm in Vienna. You may not have seen that I'm here because the hubs was part of the 1.59 marathon attempt team which happened yesterday (in charge of the lasers). And because we're STILL between houses it made sense for me and Winston to tag along. . Hubs has worked A LOT this week (including lots of 3am starts) and I've barely seen him. It was the Ineos 159 after party last night (with DJ Yoda!) so there is one very sore head this morning (not mine!). Plus we're now into week 9 of being semi homeless, and it's been SO nice to have our own little apartment this week, so today we plan on doing very little. We'll take Winston for a walk, maybe get some lunch, then I think we'll sit on this sofa and watch films. ✅ Tree bought from a local nonprofit. ✅ Decorated with almost all thrifted vintage ornaments. (Shiny Brites forever!!!) ✅ Throw blanket strategically 'thrown' around the bottom as a tree skirt. ✅ Christmas records collected from flea markets spinning just out of shot. ✅ Small and snuggly dog. It might sound overstated or even trivial, but this photo is a mark of success for me. None of the things I just listed are overly expensive or even difficult to acquire, but this photo feels like a success story. ❤️ In years past, I couldn't afford a tree or didn't have the space for one. That's nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, last year I got creative and cut down a tree from my yard! (It had to come down anyway. And I planted one to replace it in a sunnier spot.) 💪 But this year I saved money in advance. (I can't stress enough how important it is to save for not just presents, but also other holiday expenses. I never did that before and I was always feeling broke by January.) And I feel like I'm closer to matching my values with the holiday this year. 🤞 As a self-proclaimed minimalist, I struggle with such a consumerist holiday, but I'm finding ways to thrift, upcycle and simply do less this holiday season. And I feel more at peace than I had before. How do you match the holidays with your values? Chai decided to check out our master bedroom nightstand lights since Matcha told him they were awesome (the post of her in this same spot is a little while back in my feed) and he says they’re pretty cool but he’s really just here for the wreath. Anytime I go up here he likes to sneak in and lounge on our bed next to his beloved wheat wreath. Even though we have cat allergies, I don’t worry too much if the cats jump on the bed because we cover it with this lightweight quilt that protects our duvet from cat hair. Also, a fun tip for anyone who has a 2-drawer nightstand like us — we drilled a little hole in the back of them and attached a power bar to the side of the bottom drawer so it turns that drawer in to a “charging station” and keeps all the wires hidden! — Shop your screenshot of this pic for sources & similar items with the LIKEtoKNOW.it app. http://liketk.it/2EYYv . . Monday be hitting me like WHAM 🤜⁣ ⁣ Just back from a gorgeous week sitting by the pool in Zante and the house and my head are totally upside down. ⁣ ⁣ With the new arrival coming in January, I’m understandably on a bit of a mission to get the house ready. But turning one bedroom into a nursery has somehow morphed into redecorating THREE bedrooms instead. How does this happen 🤯 ⁣ ⁣ We’re having some wardrobes built in the master bedroom to house all my crap from the middle bedroom so the middle bedroom can become the baby’s bedroom. And just for fun I decided hey we really should sort out the guest bedroom too because it’s been years since it was painted, it got pretty battered when we had the loft converted and I’m obviously an absolute nutter who doesn’t like an easy life. ⁣ ⁣ Anyway. Here’s a little preview of the new wall colour in the guest room. Still blue, albeit the darker (and totally beautiful) blackish-blue Basalt by @littlegreenepaintcompany. Because if it ain’t broke don’t fix it…just tinker with it slightly. What do you guys think?⁣ ⁣ I’m also pretty pleased with the results of my first fabric-dyeing experiment. This bed linen was dark grey and as if my magic now it is blue 🙌 ⁣ ⁣ Happy Monday guys. And one from me. Milo loves jumping on this antique stitched stool and scratching his nails on it. It was inexpensive so I let him. He’s one lucky cat. It’s about the only thing in the house that’s not a scratching post I will let them use as one.
